Short description: The subject is concerned with the contemporary approach to shaping rural landscape, as well as rural design. The lectures involve the issues related to the history of rural settlement, its changes, as well as the determinants that affect it. The classes are concerned with the development of selected villages in the context of their built-up areas, public spaces, as well as their surroundings. It is both an analysis of conditions and a design concept aimed at appropriate land management within a selected village.
Full description: The course shall present issues related to the development of rural culture in the world and in the area of Poland, as well as the history of agricultural settlement on Polish lands. Special attention is paid to spatial layouts of villages and the components of rural landscape, both historical and contemporary ones. It also presents problems associated with the formation of modern rural landscape, including suburbs. An important element of contents it will convey is the ability to identify and classify rural architecture distinguishing marks and learning about the rules and basics for rural design. There are also presented programs supporting the development of rural areas.

Learning outcomes: AK2-W01 The student has theoretically founded detailed knowledge related to the historical evolution of the components of rural areas and landscape. AK2-W02 The student knows the principles for rural formation and structure. AK2-W03; AK2-W04 The student knows the rules for shaping rural landscape in accordance with the principles of cultural heritage, as well as architectural design of rural public space. AK2-U05 The student can determine the value of individual components of rural landscape and is able to assess their value for the environment. AK2-U01The has the ability to use appropriate methods when conducting urban, architectural and dendrological inventories. AK2-U02; AK2-U04 The student can use the knowledge when drawing up the concept of development for rural space. AK2-K01The student is aware of the cultural landscape of rural areas. Assessment methods and assessment criteria: Written examination,A project including the analyses of a selected village, catalogue of its characteristic elements with guidelines and a design concept, Attendance and active participation in class, keeping deadlines, passing tests, active consultations with the teacher, active participation in teamwork, grade obtained at classes (50%) + grade obtained at lectures (50%)
